Nestled in the heart of Virginia wine country, Delfosse Vineyards & Winery is just over a 30-minute drive from the Charlottesville. Within close proximity to other vineyards including Pippin Hill, Wisdom Oak, Brent Manor, and Loving Cup, Delfosse is a gem of a winery hidden down a long gravel road. The trip off the beaten path is well worth it for breathtaking mountain views and award-winning wines. The European-style terraced terrain of the vineyard makes Delfosse unique in comparison to the other wineries in the area.

Tastings at Delfosse Winery

Offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, tastings at Delfosse include 10 wines for $10 per person. With refreshing whites, robust reds, and sweet wines, the tasting menu has something to suit every palate. Of, course there’s a Viognier, which is the state grape of Virginia. Delfosse’s 2015 Viognier is aged six months in stainless steel, with hints of citrus and floral notes. As a sweeter white wine, the 2017 Deer Rock White is a combination of 33% Viognier, 33% Pinot Gris, 23% Petit Manseng, and 11% Sauvignon Blanc. You’ll taste tropical fruits such as pineapple with a touch of those floral notes from the Viognier.

For a sweet red wine, the 2015 Deer Rock Red is a mix of 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Since this wine has 3.2% residual sugar, it can be served cold. Aged for 8 months in French oak barrels, this wine has notes of raspberries and cherries. Bold reds include the 2014 Cabernet Franc and the 2014 Petit Verdot. The 2017 Rosé is the perfect light and crisp summer wine made from 100% Merlot.
