Spring-cleaning might be one thing you think of once the weather starts getting warmer, but why not shake things up this season? Rather than spending a beautiful Saturday getting the house tidy, creating a Spring checklist will put all those ideas you have for the upcoming months on paper. There’s nothing like a list to motivate you to cross things off and accomplish your goals! Springtime in Charlottesville is absolutely beautiful with blooming Dogwood and Redbud trees, chirping birds, and fragrant flowers.

City Market

The City Market reopens for business at the beginning of April every year. Located in Downtown Charlottesville, the City Market is easily accessible. Open Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., you can find all sorts of things at the market. Booths filled with freshly grown fruits and veggies, artisan cheese, baked goods, handmade goods, crafts, herbs, and much more are set up by local vendors. It does tend to get quite crowded, so be sure to come early if you want to avoid a swarm of people.

Hiking

Of course, you have to add hiking to your Charlottesville Spring Checklist. As the city is located so close to both the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive, there are plenty of amazing hiking hotspots. Old Rag Mountain, Humpback Rocks, and Crabtree Falls are some of the most popular hikes in the area. From incredible mountain views to breathtaking waterfalls, hikes are challenging yet extremely rewarding. Even if you aren’t an avid hiker, there are plenty of beginner trails that will prepare you for a more difficult hike later.

Foxfield Races

This year’s spring Foxfield Races are being held Saturday, April 27. The biannual event is held twice a year — once in the Spring and once in the Fall. The spring event takes place on the last Saturday in April each year. As a Charlottesville and University of Virginia tradition, students and residents alike flock to the races twice a year for a day of watching horses and drinking. As you can bring your own food and alcohol, you can enjoy a picnic lunch while you watch the horses run around the track. There will be booths set up from sponsors such as vineyard vines, Sun Tan City, and Pink Palm, you can take a break in between races and walk around the vendors. If you’ve never been, it definitely deserves a spot on your Charlottesville Spring Checklist.
